Open Door

Open Door (North East) was established as a registered charity in 2001. We aim to provide poverty relief and to help disadvantaged people in the North East of England, primarily in Teesside and Tyneside.

To date, the charity has expressed this aim through providing food, housing and material help to asylum seekers and refugees, regardless of gender, age, race, faith or lifestyle. We have recently expanded this into the area of debt counselling.

We currently:

  • House 17 individuals with 70 others waiting to get a home
  • Distribute food to over 50 people at our weekly drop-in
  • Signpost people to where they can get help
  • Have an ever developing strategy to help those asylum seekers who get status and leave to remain start their new life in the right way.
  • Have trained volunteers to become qualified and licensed debt counsellors to offer debt advice to any and all on Teesside.

We are always looking for other ways to provide poverty relief and help disadvantaged people.
